Deal or No Deal (Microsoft PowerPoint) This Power Point is a simplified version of the television game show "Deal or No Deal" and is perfect for teaching mean, median, range, probability, decimals, fractions, and percents. Before starting the Power Point, click and drag the red circle to cover the suitcase selected by the students. Run the Power Point. Ask different students to select a suitcase. (I usually reserve students who can handle the results of an unpopular decision for last). Click on the suitcase selected to reveal the attached amount. After each round have students: Prepare 20 or 30 questions to ask the class. Open Excel and open the Tic Tac Toe file. Divide the class into two teams. One team for X's and one team for O's. When a team answers a question correctly, type and X or O into a square of their choice. The first team to get three in a row either horizontally, diagonally, or vertically wins. Variation to Tic Tac Toe: Divide the class into 3 teams. Make the third team the "celebrity" team. They work together to come up with an answer. If they don't know the answer, they make one up and try the bluff the X and O team into believing them. The X/O team can either agree or disagree with the celebrity's answer. If they disagree, they have to come up with the correct answer. Prepare 20 or 30 questions to ask the class. Open Excel and open the KaBlam file. NOTE: For this file to work in 2003/04, you must load the Analysis Toolpak add-ins (Tools menu, Add-ins). Divide the class into several teams. Ask the team a question. When they get the answer correct, they roll a six-sided die. Press the F9 key (Comman + Equal) the number of times on the die. The amount displayed after the last key press is their score for that question. If they hit a KaBlam! space, their accumulated score is wiped out. Prepare 20 or 30 questions to ask the class. Open PowerPoint and start the Dots PowerPoint. Divide the class into 4 teams. Each time a team gets a question correct, click on a number for that team to make their dot move around the race track. The first dot across the finish line wins. Stair Climber Microsoft PowerPoint) Prepare 20 or 30 questions to ask the class. Open PowerPoint and start the Stair Climber PowerPoint. Divide the class into 3 teams. Each time a team gets a question correct, they roll a six-sided die. Click on each stair step to make the team's character move up the steps. To win, a team must land EXACTLY on the top step. As a team approaches the top, they have the choice of taking what they rolled on the die, or passing it to another team to force them to go "too far". If a team goes too far, click the "Too Far" box at the top. Their character will tumble back to the bottom of the steps and that team will have to start their climb over. 2 Minute Timer (Microsoft PowerPoint) Dice Roller (Microsoft PowerPoint) 8-Space Spinner (Microsoft PowerPoint) FOR EVEN MORE GAMES, SEE THE GAMEWIZE BOOKS LISTED AT THE RIGHT!! |
