My Biography

Born and raised in Texas near the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area, and ever since I can remember, I've loved to read and write. After graduting from college, I taught middle school and high school as I continued to hone my writing skills. An overnight success (after fifteen years of hard work), nine of my books hit the market within eighteen months of each other.

In the“Adventures in Mathopolis” books, humor and cartoons combined with an intriguing story line guide elementary readers on a lively mathematical adventure. I've authored two books in this series for elementary students, “Estimating and Measuring” and “The Great Polygon Caper”. I also have seven published technology integration books: “Partnering Pre-Algebra with Microsoft Excel”, “Partnering Secondary Math with Microsoft Excel”, and five books in the popular “GameWize” series.

An experienced educator in both mathematics and technology integration, I have presented at conferences for math, science, social studies, and language arts and was a featured speaker at the 2010 Texas Computer Education Association Conference. In 2006, I was awarded the "Adult and Community Education Outstanding Instructor" for Texas.

On a More Personal Note

I'm married to a wonderful man, John, have one son, Ian, and have bachelors and masters degrees in secondary education. We own two black cats, named Shadow and Dusty (so now you know I’m not superstitious). I like to read, write, do lots of messy crafts (sewing, painting, clay), play card games (with real cards – not just on the computer), and work in the yard (my flowers usually look pretty pitiful, but I have my very own chainsaw for prunning trees). I love watching old movie musicals and wish I could sing like them, but whenever I burst into song, my family scatters.
